Students participating in the CEA CAPA Sydney program can have an opportunity of a part-time professional internship plus 2-3 courses. This program offers courses in business, communication, critical media and cultural studies, political science, international relations, English, and sustainability. Students will also enjoy a variety of local and regional excursions and activities during the program designed to engage students with Australian culture and the global city of Sydney.
Students take courses at the CEA CAPA Sydney Center housed in the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), which is centrally located in the Haymarket neighborhood. The Center is also conveniently within a 10–15-minute walk to the nearby Scape Darling housing. The CEA CAPA Sydney staff is on hand to ensure your program is academically invigorating and to provide support as you adapt to a new culture.
CEA CAPA Courses
The courses at CEA CAPA are taught by their faculty and are with other study abroad students from various U.S. institutions. To view currently offered courses, choose the appropriate semester and click on Courses to see the full list of CEA CAPA courses, including course descriptions and syllabi.
Courses + Internship
You'll intern approximately 20 hours per week and take an associated internship course for a total of 6 credits. You will also take an additional 2-3 courses. You'll generally commute 30 - 60 mins each way to your internship, work 2 - 3 days per week, and will need to balance these demands with your coursework. Available internships include businesses of every kind, as well as nonprofit and nongovernmental organizations. Students wishing to do an internship must submit additional application materials including an updated resume and cover letter and will be interviewed by a panel at Rollins. Accepted students will then have their materials sent to CEA CAPA and the staff will work to place each student in an internship that best matches their individual interests, skills, and past experiences. In most cases, you won't be notified of your specific placement until 2 - 3 weeks prior to the program start.
Housing & Meals
- Housing is in shared apartments within 30 minutes of UTS. Apartments are in modern student housing facilities with amenities such as study spaces, rooftop gathering space, on-site laundry (additional cost), gym, theater room, gaming room, key access to building, on-site staff 7 am-11 pm, security guards 11 pm-7 am, and each floor is equipped with garbage and recycling chutes.
- Apartments are fully furnished, including cooking utensils, bed linens and towels.
- Apartments are located within a 30-minute walk to the CEA CAPA Sydney Center with nearby grocers, shops, and restaurants and the dynamic Darling Harbour area.
- Students will have access to the Internet at their housing accommodations.
- Shared apartments will typically include double and triple bedrooms.
- The program does not have a meal plan, and students are expected to buy groceries and cook for themselves. The apartment kitchens are ready to be used, and we strongly encourage students to cook with their flatmates regularly. Cheap Eats Out and Easy Make-it-Yourself Meals
Excursions
The program includes a full-day excursion to the Blue Mountains (includes visit to Featherdale National Park), an overnight stay at Taronga Zoo, arrival harbor cruise, mid-term dinner, farewell ceremony, Sydney Harbor Bridge climb, Botanical Gardens Historical Tour, Cadman’s Cottage the Rocks Aboriginal History Walk, Museum of Australian Currency, and a guest lecture on immigration.
Activities
- The My Global Cities program is a rich and varied calendar of activities, events, lectures, walking tours and film showings organized around a monthly theme. The events give students the opportunity to engage with the host culture during their time abroad. CEA CAPA’s My Global City program offers weekly self-guided events which are either free or for a low cost to participate.
- Students can also develop their leadership skills as a member of the voluntary Student Council.

Scholarships
Scholarships based on financial need are available to off-set costs associated with international airfare and other costs associated with study abroad, including, for this program, the additional housing during breaks. Students can apply for scholarships through the Rollins program application. Students can also apply for additional scholarships through the Lancaster website.

Living and Working
Having a credit card while abroad is very helpful. Australia has a high cost of living compared to the United States. Students are able to work up to 20 hours a week on a student visa while abroad in Australia.
