The University of Newcastle is one of Australia’s most naturally beautiful campuses, with many environmentally protected habitats. The University has nearly 17,000 students, 5,600 of which are international students. This program offers various courses, including sciences, business management, environmental studies, and art.
The campus and city of Newcastle are well connected via train and bus, surrounded by wineries, national parks, miles of beach, and only two hours north of Sydney. Australian Studies Courses
Students must take at least one Australian Studies focused class: choose two to allow for flexibility. Examples include: Introduction to Aboriginal Studies, War and Australian Society, Aboriginal Education, etc.
Newcastle Courses
Choose your other three courses from the many other offerings. As you search, make sure the courses are available at the “Callaghan Campus" or "Newcastle City," and are held in Semester 1 for spring and Semester 2 for fall.

Housing & Meals
- You will live in a modern, single room in a 5-6 bedroom on-campus apartment with shared common spaces operated by Newcastle's award-winning UON Student Living. Housing includes 24/7 security and Resident Assistants.
- Their student-focused facilities include study areas, common rooms and indoor and outdoor social spaces. Students will have easy access to sporting, library, health, and academic facilities.
- Students can buy groceries and cook in their shared kitchen, which is stocked with basic tools and utensils, as there is no meal plan.
- There is also access to inexpensive student dining halls, coffee shops, and on-campus restaurants.
Student Life
- TEAN activities are designed to immerse students in the local culture, including surf lessons, local sporting events and music festivals, and trips to the Sydney opera house.
- Newcastle University also offers academic support, health services, disability support services, a counseling center, sports and recreation facilities – including a 50-meter indoor pool, state-of-the-art gym with a indoor climbing wall, and more than 60 student clubs and societies .
- Newcastle offers a cross-cultural friendship program through which volunteers from the local community link with international students.
- TEAN also offers students optional excursions prior to the semester and during the semester breaks for an additional fee. These include destinations such as New Zealand, Thailand and Melbourne, Australia

Scholarships
Scholarships based on financial need are available to off-set costs associated with international airfare and other costs associated with study abroad. Students can apply for scholarships through the Rollins program application. Students can also apply for additional scholarships through TEAN.

Living and Working
Having a credit card while abroad is very helpful. Australia has a high cost of living compared to the United States. Students are able to work up to 20 hours a week on a student visa while abroad in Australia.
