A Well-Rounded Foundation
A liberal arts education comprises two equal pillars—focused study in a major and exploration through Foundations coursework. In our integrative, developmental Foundations program, students will acquire content knowledge and learn how multiple disciplinary perspectives come together to examine and solve complex, real-world problems.
Explore Curriculum and Curricular RequirementsForeign Language (FCMP)
The Foreign Language competency can be met by any of the following:
- Earning a C- or better in any Rollins course that carries the Foreign Language
Competency (F) designation - Earning a C- or better in an approved Rollins transfer course
- Achieving an AP Language exam score of 4 or 5
- Achieving an IB Language exam score of 6 or 7
- For international students, having been admitted to Rollins College based on their TOEFL score

Mathematical Thinking (MCMP)
Math competency requirements may be used toward a major or minor.
The Mathematical Thinking competency can be met by any one of the following:
- Earning a C- or better in any Rollins course that carries the Mathematical Thinking (M) competency designation, which includes courses from a variety of departments
- Earning a C- or better in an approved Rollins transfer course
- Achieving an AP Statistics exam score of 4 or 5
- Achieving an AP Calculus exam (A/B or B/C) score of 4 or 5
- Achieving an IB Mathematics exam score of 4 or better
Writing (WCMP)
The competency course may NOT be counted toward the English major or minor.
The Writing competency can be met by any one of the following:
- Earning a C or better in an ENG 140 course
- Earning a C or better in a Rollins-approved transfer course
- Earning an AP English language and composition course score of 4 or 5
Ethical Reasoning (ECMP)
Ethical reasoning competency courses may be double-counted toward a major, minor, or Foundations Seminar.
Intercultural (ICMP)
In Intercultural Competency courses, students will gain knowledge of the ways cultural differences enrich the world and how past and present customs have advanced or infringed upon the promises of a democratic society. Students will assess and critique current theories as tools to understand difference and commonality and will examine various strategies aimed at achieving more just, equitable, and productive societies. Students in ICMP courses will bring multiple viewpoints and experiences, creating an opportunity to engage in discussion across disagreement; question one’s own beliefs and biases; and find common solutions to advance a shared project-all essential skills for thriving after graduation.
Students will satisfy this requirement by completion of any Rollins course that carries the Intercultural Competency (ICMP) designation or completion of an approved transfer course that includes the study of intercultural competency.
