Hate Crime – Simple Assault based on Sexual Orientation
November 22, 2025
In the late-night hours of November 21, 2025, Campus Safety received a report from a student regarding a bias-motivated incident that occurred on campus grounds. The student reported that while walking on Tiedtke Way, an identified CLA student threw an object that struck them and directed an anti-LGBTQ+ slur toward them before entering a Black Nissan Altima and leaving the area with two unidentified individuals.
The reporting party has been connected with appropriate care, support resources, and relevant campus offices. Based on the targeted slur and physical aggression, this incident has been classified as a hate crime. Campus Safety is actively investigating the matter in coordination with campus partners and the Winter Park Police Department to pursue appropriate accountability measures.
Hate-motivated incidents have a harmful and disproportionate impact on individuals and the broader campus community. Behavior of this nature is fundamentally inconsistent with our institutional values and our commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment. Sharing information about incidents of concern helps promote transparency, support community dialogue, and encourage anyone who experiences or witnesses similar behavior to report it.

Timely Notification
Burglary, Forcible Entry
June 30, 2025
On the morning of June 30, 2025, Campus Safety responded to a report of a break-in at the East End Neighborhood construction site. Upon arrival, officers met with site contractors who reported that three secured storage containers (Connex boxes) and an office trailer had been forcibly entered. The chain securing a walk-in gate and a portion of perimeter fencing were also found to be compromised. Multiple tools and equipment were reported missing. An itemized list of stolen property is being compiled.
At this time, there is no available surveillance footage from Campus Safety cameras that captures the area of the incident. The general contractor’s team is reviewing footage from their own cameras and will provide any relevant recordings when available. This incident appears to be an opportunistic crime, given the circumstances. To address this matter effectively, Campus Safety is actively collaborating with the Winter Park Police Department to expedite the identification of the involved individual and evaluating additional security-related hardware. Our actions align closely with our institutional protocols, ensuring the holistic safety of the campus community.
Even though our campus is a safe place statistically, it takes the entire community to report suspicious behavior and to secure items of value. Locking your door when away from your room or while you are sleeping will help reduce the risk of a variety of crimes from taking place. While the campus is not fully populated, it is especially important to take extra precautions and take note of situations that seem odd or out of the ordinary. Timely Warning Notification
Dating Violence
March 11, 2025
Late in the evening on March 8, 2025, the Rollins College Campus Safety Department received a report of dating violence that occurred in Elizabeth Hall. According to the report, a Rollins student engaged in threatening behavior involving a former dating partner who is also a Rollins student. All individuals have been identified, and the reporting party is being provided with the appropriate level of care and resources and is connected with the proper offices on campus. Additionally, the Winter Park Police Department has been notified and is working closely with Campus Safety in response to the incident. Campus Safety encourages all community members to remain vigilant and take proactive steps to protect themselves:
Speak Up. If you are a victim or witness to dating violence, tell someone you trust—whether it's an advocate, friend, family member, professor, staff member, RA, or coach. You are not alone, and help is available.
Start by Believing. It takes courage to tell someone you’re in an abusive or unhealthy relationship. If someone discloses violence or abuse to you, believe and support them.
Know Your Resources. Allow the victim to make their own decisions and recommend that they connect with a knowledgeable campus or community resource (see list below).
Take It Seriously. Abuse, at any time, in any form, is always wrong. No exceptions. Many acts of abuse are against the law and ignoring them can allow the cycle to continue.
Take a Stand. If you see violence or abuse happening, step in safely, call it out, or seek help. The person using violence is the one in the wrong—not the victim.
Think for Yourself. Don’t give in to peer pressure or follow the crowd if they condone abusive behavior. Make your own choices and stand up for what’s right.
Reclaim the Power. Abusers seek control. By refusing to participate or support their actions, you shift the power away from them and empower the victim.
Respect Over Abuse. Hurting others doesn’t make you stronger or more important. True strength comes from treating others with kindness and respect.
Be a Friend. Support those who have experienced abuse by including them in activities and offering kindness. A simple gesture can help them feel less isolated.
Speak Out. Let victims know they are not at fault. Show support and let others know that abusive behavior is unacceptable.
Stay Calm. Responding to violence with anger can escalate the situation. Try to remain composed and seek help to address the issue effectively.

Stalking
March 5, 2025
On March 4, 2025, the Rollins College Campus Safety Department received a report regarding an incident of stalking that occurred on campus grounds outside of Sutton Place Apartments. The report indicates that a known non-Rollins affiliate engaged in repeated, unwanted contact and behavior toward a Rollins student with whom they had a prior dating relationship. Both individuals have been identified, and at this time, there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the general campus safety. The reporting party is being provided with the appropriate level of care and resources and is connected with the proper offices on campus. Campus Safety encourages all community members to remain vigilant and take proactive steps to protect themselves:
-Do not allow unknown people to “piggyback” into a building without using their R-card.
-Trust your instincts—if a person, phone call, or message makes you uncomfortable, remove yourself from the situation as quickly as possible.
-If safe, clearly state that you are not interested in the person and ask that they stop.
-If you believe you are being followed, try to move to a well-lit or populated area, seek assistance, and call 911 immediately.
-You are never required to share personal or sensitive information if you feel uncomfortable doing so.
-Keep a record or log of contact with the person to be able to document the unwanted contact. Save any evidence – notes, letters, gifts, pictures, etc. to provide to authorities.
-If the stalking is electronic in nature, engage an expert to review devices to ensure you do not have unwanted apps or tracking software installed.
-If you ever feel in danger, call 911 right away.

Hate Crime – In the form of Intimidation based on Race
March 3, 2025
On February 28, 2025, Campus Safety received a report from Bias Education and Support Services (BESS) regarding a bias-motivated incident in Ward Hall. An unknown individual(s) wrote a racial epithet on a whiteboard attached to a residential door. Due to the targeted nature of the message and its’ intent to intimidate, this incident has been classified as a race-based hate crime. Campus Safety is actively investigating in collaboration with on-campus partners to identify those responsible and ensure appropriate accountability.
Hate crimes of any magnitude have a disparate impact on individuals and our community as a whole. The implied message of this particular incident is hurtful and is in direct opposition to our mission of global citizenship and responsible leadership. We hope that sharing incidents like this allow for a constructive dialogue that promotes a stronger more inclusive community and empowers others who may experience similar situations to come forward.

Hate Crime – In the form of Vandalism based on Sexual - Orientation
February 21, 2025
On February 21, 2025, Campus Safety received a report of repeated bias-motivated vandalism in Elizabeth Hall. An unknown individual(s) targeted a bulletin board in the hallway, specifically defacing materials related to LGBTQIA+ information. Given the nature of the vandalism and its selective focus, we have classified this incident as a hate crime based on sexual orientation. Campus Safety is actively investigating and collaborating with on-campus partners to identify those responsible and ensure accountability.

On February 18, 2025, the Rollins College Campus Safety Department received a report from the Office of Title IX regarding an incident of stalking that occurred at Sutton Place Apartments between February 12 and February 17, 2025. The report indicates that a known Rollins student engaged in repeated, unwanted contact and behavior toward another Rollins student. Both individuals have been identified, and at this time, there is no indication of an ongoing threat to campus safety. The reporting party is being provided with the appropriate level of care and resources and is connected with the proper offices on campus. Campus Safety encourages all community members to remain vigilant and take proactive steps to protect themselves:
-Trust your instincts—if a person, phone call, or message makes you uncomfortable, remove yourself from the situation as quickly as possible.
-If safe, clearly state that you are not interested in the person and ask that they stop.
-If you believe you are being followed, try to move to a well-lit or populated area, seek assistance, and call 911 immediately.
-You are never required to share personal or sensitive information if you feel uncomfortable doing so.
-Keep a record or log of contact with the person to be able to document the unwanted contact. Save any evidence – notes, letters, gifts, pictures, etc. to provide to authorities.
-If the stalking is electronic in nature, engage an expert to review devices to ensure you do not have unwanted apps or tracking software installed.
-If you ever feel in danger, call 911 right away.

On December 9, 2024, the Rollins College Campus Safety Department received a report from the Office of Title IX of non-consensual sexual contact in the form of rape that occurred in Elizabeth Hall in the early morning hours of December 9, 2024. It was reported that a known, but non-Rollins affiliate engaged in sexual contact with a Rollins student without consent. Robbery – Sutton Place
November 18, 2024
On November 17, 2024, the Rollins College Campus Safety Department was alerted to a robbery that took place on the 5th floor of Sutton Place Apartments. A review of CCTV footage revealed four male suspects gaining entry to Sutton Place after being let in by a resident exiting the building. These individuals were known acquaintances of the victim but were not affiliated with Rollins College.
The suspects proceeded to the victim's room, where they stole multiple personal items. The victim’s roommate, who was not present at the time, also had belongings taken. The suspects and their vehicle were captured on CCTV, and all relevant evidence has been forwarded to the Winter Park Police Department. Campus Safety is working closely with law enforcement as part of the ongoing investigation and in alignment with college safety practices.
At this time, there is no evidence suggesting an ongoing threat to the campus community. However, we encourage everyone to remain vigilant and take precautions. Please be cautious of individuals attempting to gain entry into buildings, and always ensure that doors are securely locked to prevent unauthorized access. Even if you do not feel comfortable in stopping access or saying something in the moment, immediately contact Campus Safety with a description of the individuals to allow us to follow up. Follow the guidance – see something, say something, to ensure the safety of everyone in the building.

Swiftly responding to the incident, Campus Safety utilized CCTV footage to gather crucial information in collaboration with WPPD. After review, it was determined that the vehicle was stolen by unknown individuals on the morning of March 15, 2024, at 10:48 AM. Despite extensive efforts, the stolen vehicle remains undiscovered, and the identity of the suspects remains unknown. It is important to note that the individual(s) are not believed to be affiliated with the campus community. The WPPD has been provided with all relevant details and is actively collaborating with the Campus Safety Department in the ongoing investigation.

On September 14, 2023, the Rollins College Campus Safety Department received a report of non-consensual sexual contact in the form of rape that occurred in Ward Hall earlier this week. It was reported that one Rollins student engaged in sexual contact with another Rollins student without consent. Both parties have been identified, and the reporting party is being provided with appropriate care, resources, and reporting options. The Winter Park Police Department has been contacted and is actively investigating this matter. With the information we have and the steps that have been taken, we do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the campus community. Burglary, Forcible Entry
August 10, 2023
At 6:25 AM on August 10, 2023, the Campus Safety Department received a report regarding a forcible entry and burglary incident at the enclosed cart storage within the Rollins Garage. Subsequent investigation, including a thorough review of CCTV footage, revealed that an unknown male subject illicitly entered the area at 1:05 AM on the same day. The individual accomplished this by cutting a hole in the chain-link fence, allowing him unauthorized access.
Once inside, he proceeded to remove a variety of lawn equipment, collectively valued at more than $660. The individual left the scene on his bicycle from the corner of Ollie Avenue and Tiedtke Way. This incident appears to be an opportunistic crime, given the circumstances. To address this matter effectively, Campus Safety is actively collaborating with the Winter Park Police Department to expedite the identification of the involved individual and evaluating additional security-related hardware. Our actions align closely with our institutional protocols, ensuring the holistic safety of the campus community.
It is important to emphasize that, at present, there is no ongoing threat to members of the campus community as this was a property crime. Rest assured; appropriate measures are being taken to mitigate any potential risks. Campus Safety strongly urges the community to report anything that you perceive to be suspicious activity immediately; see something, say something. Please secure spaces that are unoccupied to reduce the risk of someone taking advantage of a vulnerable situation. Locking your door when away from your room or while you are sleeping will help reduce the risk of a variety of crimes from taking place. While the campus is not fully populated, it is especially important to take extra precautions and take note of situations that seem odd or out of the ordinary. Motor Vehicle Theft

March 11, 2023
On March 11, 2023, at 4:19 AM, Campus Safety Department was made aware of a motor vehicle theft which took place on the campus grounds, in the parking spaces near Rollins Hall. While patrolling the campus, a Campus Safety officer was drawn to the area due to a vehicle alarm. Once the officer arrived, he discovered a vehicle leaving campus grounds at a high rate of speed. Campus Safety quickly utilized CCTV footage to gather more information about the potential owner and to provide WPPD. WPPD was notified shortly thereafter to respond. After canvasing the campus and surrounding community, the stolen vehicle was found off campus. The owner was identified, and the vehicle has been returned. Currently, the suspects are unknown, but are not believed to be a part of the campus community. WPPD has been provided with all of the pertinent information and is currently investigating this incident in tandem with the Campus Safety Department.
We are sending this notice so that the campus community can make well-informed decisions about the safety and security of property in the future. To protect yourself from similar crimes, always lock your vehicle and remove the keys, and remove all articles of value that are in plain view. Always park in well-lit areas in and around campus and notify Campus Safety should you notice any suspicious activity.

On February 25th, 2023, the Rollins College Campus Safety Department received a report of non-consensual sexual contact in the form of fondling that occurred in Strong Hall in the early hours of February 19th, 2023. It was reported that a Rollins student engaged in sexual contact with another person inside a residential hall room without first gaining consent. Both parties have been identified, and we do not have a reason to believe there is an ongoing threat to campus safety at this time. The reporting party is being provided with the appropriate level of care and resources. January 25, 2023
On January 25, 2023, the Rollins College Campus Safety Department was made aware of a motor vehicle theft, specifically an Onward 4 passenger Low-Speed-Vehicle, belonging to the Athletics’ Department, which took place on the campus grounds, in front of the Alfond Sports Center. The cart was last seen at 9 PM on 1/24/2023 and Athletics staff noticed it was missing at 7 AM on 1/25/2023. A thorough search of the campus, off-campus properties, and college quarter was done, but the cart was not recovered. It is unknown who took the golf cart at this time. A report was filed with the Winter Park Police Department, who are currently investigating this theft along with the Office of Campus Safety.
We are sending this notice so that the campus community can make well informed decisions about the safety and security of property in the future. To protect yourself from similar crimes, always lock your vehicle and remove the keys, and remove all articles of value that are in plain view. Always park in well-lit areas in and around campus and notify Campus Safety should you notice any suspicious activity.

On Monday, December 26, 2022, the Rollins College Campus Safety Department received a report that a forcible entry burglary occurred at a commercial property, Studio 372 Salon & Spa, at 372 Fairbanks Ave.
At 2:57 PM, it was reported, that an unknown person(s) gained entrance to the salon by breaking the front door glass. The Campus Safety Department is currently investigating this case along with the Winter Park Police.
Campus Safety strongly urges the community to report anything that they perceive to be suspicious activity immediately; see something, say something. Please secure spaces that are unoccupied to reduce the risk of a crime of opportunity. Locking your door when away from your room or while you are sleeping will help reduce the risk of a variety of crimes taking place. While the campus is not fully populated, it is especially important to take extra precautions and take note of situations that seem odd or out of the ordinary. Sexual Assault – Non-Consensual Sexual Contact, Fondling
September 1, 2022
On August 30, 2022, the Office of Title IX received a report of non-consensual sexual contact in the form of unwanted touching or fondling that occurred at approximately 4 pm inside of Ward Hall. It was reported that a Rollins student, while walking up the stairs, had an unknown male subject touch them without their consent. Campus Safety was able to piece this information together with a trespassing case that occurred during the same time period, and the student positively identified the same individual as the one involved in the case. Reporting options have been shared with the student, and we are following institutional policies to ensure overall safety to campus. The reporting party is being provided the appropriate level of care and resources and is connected with the proper offices on campus.
Based upon footage from the CCTV system and eye-witness accounts, an unaffiliated male subject gained access to Ward Hall several times during a 30-minute time period when residents either held the door open or he was allowed to piggy-back into the building. Once inside the building, he stayed in common areas but was seen trying to open students’ doors that were locked. Ultimately residents noticed his behavior and attempted to confront the subject while also calling for Campus Safety to assist. After realizing that he was being looked for, the subject hastily left the building and returned to his vehicle, which was parked behind Olin Library. Campus Safety attempted to approach the subject twice while on campus, each time he recklessly sped off campus, drove over curbs, and almost caused accidents on Fairbanks Ave. Winter Park Police were notified of the trespassing and provided information pertaining to the subject’s car.
The subject is described as a white male, early 20s in age, approximately 5’ 10”, with black hair pulled back in a ponytail, patchy facial hair, dark rimmed glasses, wearing a light black sweater over a t-shirt with jeans and black shoes. He was driving a 2008, gray, Acura MDX sports utility vehicle. To aid the campus community, photos of the subject have been attached to this notification. It is important to note that when living in a communal environment, safety is a shared responsibility. On August 23, 2022, at approximately 10:05 pm, the Rollins College Campus Safety Department received a report of non-consensual sexual contact in the form of unwanted touching or fondling that occurred on the public sidewalk near the 7-Eleven at 101 W. Fairbanks Avenue earlier that evening. It was reported that one Rollins student, while walking towards campus, crossed paths with two unidentified males and that one male touched the student without their consent. Reporting options have been shared with the student, and we are following institutional policies to ensure overall safety on campus. The reporting party is being provided the appropriate level of care and resources and is connected with the proper offices on campus.
The persons of interest were described as being two African-American males. One individual was described as average height, bald, slim build, wearing a baggy white shirt and red sunglasses. The other individual was slightly taller, bigger build, wearing a dark gray shirt. Campus Safety is still actively engaged in identifying the persons of interest, who are not believed to be members of the campus community. Timely Notification
Burglary - unlawful entry, no force

At 5:09 PM on May 8, 2022, the Campus Safety Department received a report that an unlawful entry, no-force burglary occurred at the Sutton Apartments. It was reported that an individual gained entry into two different unlocked rooms inside of an apartment in the Sutton Place Apartments. Subsequently, it was discovered that items were missing from these spaces. The residents do not wish to file a report with the Winter Park Police Department at this time. Due to the nature of the circumstance, it is likely that this is a crime of opportunity that was perpetrated by someone walking through the building. Campus Safety has identified the individual and we are following institutional policies to ensure the overall safety of the campus. At this time, there is no ongoing threat to the campus community.
Campus Safety strongly urges the community to report anything that you perceive to be suspicious activity immediately; see something, say something. Please secure spaces that are unoccupied to reduce the risk of someone taking advantage of a vulnerable situation. Locking your door when away from your room or while you are sleeping will help reduce the risk of a variety of crimes from taking place. While the campus is not fully populated, it is especially important to take extra precautions and take note of situations that seem odd or out of the ordinary. Do not hesitate to contact Campus Safety for assistance or to ensure that the space is secured.

Timely Notification
Sexual Assault – Non-Consensual Sexual Contact, Rape
May 3, 2022
On May 2, 2022, the Rollins College Campus Safety Department received a report of non-consensual sexual contact, rape, that occurred on the campus grounds near the 170 W. Fairbanks Building and Casa Iberia in the morning hours of April 16, 2022. It was reported that one Rollins student engaged in sexual intercourse with another student without gaining consent. Both parties have been identified, reporting options have been shared, and we are following institutional policies to ensure the overall safety of the campus. The reporting party is being provided the appropriate level of care and resources and is connected with the proper offices on campus. At this time, we do not think there is an ongoing threat to the campus community.
