Threat Assessment
In recent years, tragic events across the country have highlighted the dangers posed by violence on college and university campuses. Rollins is committed to maintaining an environment in which individuals are safe to learn, work, and live. In support of this commitment, we affirm that Rollins will not tolerate violence or threats of violence on its campus or in connection with any College-sponsored program.
In support of this effort, Rollins established the Behavioral Evaluation and Threat Assessment (BETA) Team comprised of representatives from the dean of students, campus safety, human resources, wellness, and residential life. The team meets on a regular basis to evaluate threat referrals, develop case management plans and, if necessary, intervene in a manner appropriate to the situation.
The mission of the BETA team is to determine if an individual poses, or may reasonably pose, a threat of violence to self, others, or the Rollins community and to intervene to avert the threat and maintain the safety of the situation. The team responds to behaviors exhibited by students, employees, visitors, and non-affiliated persons prior to a critical incident in an attempt to prevent violence so that the Rollins campus remains a safe and secure working and learning environment.
Recognizing and reporting early signs of a potentially dangerous situation are crucial to reducing the risk of violence and enhance the College’s ability to provide assistance to community members who may be in distress. We encourage all members of the College community to use this additional safety resource to learn how to recognize potential threats and the ways to safely and if you so choose, to confidentially, report concerns.
Campus violence prevention depends on the referrals of the community – students, faculty, employees, and visitors–to keep Rollins a safe and enriching campus for all who live, study, and work here.
In An Emergency
- 1 - Get to a safe place
- 2 - Call 911, or Campus Safety at 407-646-2999 (x2999 from a campus phone)
- 3 - Share your exact location, the phone number you are calling from, the type of emergency that exists, and any other individuals that may be involved
- 4 - If possible, notify others who might also be in danger
Non-Emergencies
If you become aware of a situation that you believe may pose a threat to the safety of the campus, or one of its members, we encourage you to:

The Threat Assessment Team
We are a group of trained professionals from different departments across campus who discuss and evaluate behaviors of concern that could precede a violent event. This could be violence to self, others, campus, or the Rollins community. This team addresses behaviors of concern and provides resources to help keep the Rollins campus a safe working and learning environment.
