The Community School of Music is committed to serving the Central Florida community through musical education and scholarship programs while offering a pedagogy lab for music majors at Rollins. Private lessons are available in piano, organ, voice, and most orchestral instruments for all ages.

Dr. John Sinclair began the Community School of Music in 1993 to offer the greater Orlando area non-credit private music instruction for all ages and levels as part of the Rollins College Department of Music.
Mission
Our mission is to enrich lives through music, providing the highest-quality instruction and performance opportunities for students of all ages at all levels of musical development. Our faculty has excellent credentials and a broad base of experience. The school continues to develop its curriculum to provide educationally sound programs and exemplary opportunities for its students. It also serves as a pedagogy lab for the music majors of Rollins College who are studying effective teaching practices in applied music among other area. We serve as an integrative music resource in the Greater Orlando community through our programs and outreach activities.
Attendance Policy
The attendance policy involves a high commitment from both parent and student, as parents are financially responsible for all lessons, including those missed. One makeup lesson per semester is allowed for an excused absence (24 hours’ notice). If a teacher must cancel, the lesson will be rescheduled. Full lesson time is not guaranteed when a student arrives late.

Personalized Instruction
We offer one-on-one lessons in piano, organ, voice, and most orchestral instruments during two traditional semesters in the fall and spring with 12 lessons and a summer semester consisting of up to 12 lessons at either 30-, 45-, or 60-minute intervals.
Minimum Age Requirements
Piano: Age 7
Voice: Age 12
Suzuki Violin Technique: Ages 4-6
String Instruments: Age 7
Wind Instruments: Grade 4
Recitals and Master Classes
Community School students are encouraged to participate in all recitals and master classes offered. Achievement Day/Honors Recital for piano students is held late in Spring. Voice and string recitals are scheduled by each instructor.
Instruments Required
Each student must have his/her own instrument to enroll in the program. An acoustic piano is recommended for piano students’ home practice; school pianos are not available for regular practice.
Theory
Piano students will be required to follow an established music theory curriculum according to their level of applied music study. Theory placement tests will be administered at Achievement Day in the spring.
Student Retention
Evaluation is continuous and those students who fail to apply themselves according to their teachers’ instruction may be required to withdraw.

Lessons are given in Keene Hall on the Rollins College campus, which is located off Park Ave. and accessed by Fairbanks Ave. from the west and Aloma Ave. from the east. For further directions, use the interactive campus map or call 407-646-2233.
Parking
One-hour on-campus parking permits are available from your instructor (one per family per semester). Parking is also available in the SunTrust Parking Garage across Fairbanks on Lyman Ave. (using the Community School permit). We strongly encourage the use of the parking garage since parking immediately around the music building is very limited.
