Hume House Live on Air

Tune in to WPRK 91.5FM online or from your radio Thursday, May 15th at 10:30am, for our third annual live radio show! Enjoy a curated playlist of our future kindergarteners favorite songs featuring hits such as "Waka Waka" and "Get Lost". Each child will personally introduce their favorite song then tune in till the end to hear all 15 children sing our CDC song. You won't want to miss it!

Class Showcase: Writing Books for (& with) Children

The students of Honors 300 CE, "Writing Books for (& with) Children," and their partners at the Hume House Child Development & Student Research Center invite you to a showcase of nineteen brand-new books by Rollins College's youngest writers. These co-authored texts, ranging from Animal Pool Party, Everybody Come! to Derailed: A Wild Ride on the Amtrak, will be on display on the main floor of Olin Library where you can meet the authors and learn about the process of collaborating with a four-year-old.

Symbolic Languages: Children’s Understandings of the Collection
January 18 – May 11 | Rollins Museum of Art
The exhibition, Symbolic Languages: Children’s Understandings of the Collection showcases how children aged 2 to 5 perceive and interpret art, inspired by the Reggio Emilia principle of using “one hundred languages” to communicate.
Curated in partnership with the Rollins College Child Development & Student Research Center at Hume House, it features works by artists, including Elizabeth Catlett and Chuck Close. The exhibition will be accompanied by a publication including a research study and an essay on the Child Development Center’s (CDC) history.

Family Opening Day at the Rollins Museum of Art Symbolic Languages: Children’s Understandings of the Collection
Saturday, January 18, 10 a.m. – noon | Rollins Museum of Art
Drop in to the Rollins Museum of Art for a special family-friendly opening of Symbolic Languages. The open house will be an opportunity to privately preview the exhibition before it opens to the public. Child-friendly refreshments will be available. Remarks by CDC and RMA staff will be at 11 a.m.

Lecture: Who’s in Charge Here? Sharing Authority with Young Children in Museums with Nicole Cromartie
Tuesday, February 4, 6 p.m. | Rollins Museum of Art
Join us for this lecture with Nicole Cromartie, Director of Learning and Engagement, Clyfford Still Museum. In 2019, the Clyfford Still Museum embarked on a groundbreaking project, inviting young children to co-curate an exhibition. Over three years, 250+ children and educators collaborated to shape the exhibition Clyfford Still, Art, and the Young Mind (2022). In dialogue with Symbolic Languages, this keynote will explore the impact of sharing curatorial authority with young children.

Join us for an engaging story time and activity with New York Times bestselling author-illustrator Andy J. Pizza.
Andy J. Pizza is a New York Times bestselling author and illustrator of many books for children and adults, including A Sundae with Everything On It (2024), Invisible Things (2023), and A Pizza with Everything On It (2021). Andy is also the creator of the popular podcast, Creative Pep Talk.
